When you first bring your child in for an exam, the goal of our Asbury Park family dentist is to ease her or him into it, so we start by letting your child become acquainted with our staff and with Dr. Berley. A thorough dental exam will include checking for any signs of tooth decay. Prevention is our primary focus, but early detection and treatment is the next best thing. In order to accomplish that, a visual and physical inspection of his or her teeth is combined with x-rays for a closer look at what’s going on inside the teeth.
Being comprehensive means checking her or his bite, gums, and jaw and then doing a professional dental cleaning to remove any plaque, tartar, and stubborn food particles that may still be on or between the teeth or hiding at the gum line. A cleaning gives your child an excellent chance to remain cavity free. Of course, our Asbury Park family dentist considers himself part of the tooth decay and gum disease prevention team along with you. Adhering to a nutritious diet, limiting sugary snacks and beverages, and daily brushing and flossing including after meals all goes a long way toward ensuring that your child’s teeth and gums remain healthy and strong between six month checkups. Dr. Berley will help to keep you informed on what methods and strategies will best serve your child’s long term dental well-being. This may include the use of fluoride treatments and discussion about challenges such as how to deal with teething.
